Please join us in giving a warm welcome to the newest of *Aargonat's grandchildren - little April Star born April 2, 2005.   Grand dam is Ms. Kimmie's Cause, father is Saud al Hanin.  This little filly is just hours old in these photos and wearing her father's foal blanket in a striking hunter green and navy blue.  As shown by the photo to the right, she has a beautifully Arabian 'dish' to her head!

The proud mother was featured in a Lowell Sun Article just before foaling.

Ribbons, ribbons, ribbons!!!!!!!!!!!

We  have been privileged to know and love many horses and foals.  We want to include photos and anecdotes about each of them.

Nesretheph

Nesretheph, by *Aargonat out of Chakara Samir, was born in May 1993.  Nezzie is a half Polish Arabian on her sires's side and one quarter Spanish Arabian and one quarter Appaloosa  from her dam..   She is a dark bay with some roaning through the hips, a banded tail, and white stripe of hair at the top of the tail bone - undoubtedly from her colorful, Pony of the Americas dam.  As a yearling, she was sold to a family who we thought would provide her with a loving home.   Alas, this didn't work out and, after a series of brief and unsatisfactory homes, she was finally adopted by Meaghan Donohue on July 28 of 1999.

Like her sire and grandsire, Nezzie has a brilliant trot and was an excellent dressage prospect.  Meaghan and Nezzie begain to train with Vitor Silva at Sons of the Wind Farms (http://www.mv.com/ipusers/lusitanofarm/) With the excellent training from Signore Silva, Meaghan brought Nezzie to an impressive show record in dressage.

Nezzie is now eleven and no longer competes as intensely as she once did.  She does trail rides, teaches young children to ride, competes at small schooling shows and just 'hangs out' !   This summer, Nezzie took one young rider to a first, two seconds, and a third.  She is located in Sutton MA  and - unlike the early, cautious Nezzie - enjoys attention no matter who it is.

To contact Meaghan - either for more information on Nezzie and her 'brother' or to get information on Meaghan's riding program  feel free to write to her at athenamax@charter.net

Chakara Samir (*GG Samir x Kashmir)

Chakara Samir is half Arabian on her sire's side and half Appaloosa on her dam’s side.  She is registered with both the Pony of the Americas registry and with the International Arabian Horse Association.  Chakara has the highly exotic, colorful appearance of her Appy dam with a very long flaxen mane and tail which, unless trimmed, drags on the ground.

Her exotic appearance insures that she is always the center of attention in any ring at any show.  However, if her flashy appearance isn't enough to win her total attention, her attitude will.  She will whinny and call until all other equines in the vicinity  turn to do her the homage to which she feels entitled.

She is shown to the left with our Morgan, Cyd the Incredable Viking (we didn't name him) who we captured in mid-buck on a lovely fall day.  Notice Chakara's long, lovely flowing tail

She is a lead mare in any herd!  Although a dominant mare, she is also one of the best brood mares that we've ever had.  She is very attentive to her babies and tolerant of all foal silliness.  She nursed her babies with patience until they were taken to the weaning paddock and even then continued to lactate for them 'just in case'.

The photo above shows an unexpected breeding.  Chakara was stable mate to our childrens' Shetland pony.  When Gilly became (sadly) outgrown, she went to live with a lovely family of five in Canada.  Chakara mourned her, stopped eating and went into a significant decline.  Our (then) vet's new associate - right out of vet school - suggested putting the stallion in the paddock with the mare to cheer her up...promising that mares don't come into heat in the winter.  Well, they were together for less than 2 minutes and...guess what...mares certainly DO come into heat in the winter.  The little winter foal (above) was the result

This little filly above was born on a cold morning in early December.  To keep her warm until she dried out fully, we dressed her in Cheryl's sweat shirt and sweat pants.  As she got a little older and dryer, she was able to wear a regular foal blanket but we always felt it wasn't quite as stylish as the sweats! This filly is full sister to Nezreteph above.

Chakara was shown by in hunter and native costume classes and did quite well.  Probably one of the silliest things we've ever seen was when one of her young fillies returned after a year of being at a training facility.  We felt that we could put two year old filly out in the pasture with her mom without problem.  Alas, Chakara, proceeded to lactate and nurse this now two year old filly who at 14.5 hands was considerably taller than her little 13.5 hand mom.
She was also a wonderful mount for pony rides, as shown below, as well as being an adult mount on the trails as shown to the right.
